Fake is the musical project of Lavurn Lee, a Toronto native who has been living in Sydney for the past 7 years. This geographic displacement is central to Lee’s music, which is built around his yearning to be part of a community he abandoned as an adolescent. As Toronto has risen as a centre of the rap scene, this geographic disconnect has intensified. Fake’s music is built around this disconnect, around an absence that produces loneliness and isolation.

Fake is fraught and distorted, filled with oblique self references and slangs that form an unstable vernacular. The music is both awkward and precise at the same time, built from mechanical noise loops, faded melodic fragments, and Lee's idiosyncratic vocal deliveries.
